When Michelle Maisto in November 2013, the phone was only available from Verizon as a CDMA device and it came with a subsidy and a mobile service contract.Since then a great deal has changed. The phone is now available in a GSM version, meaning it can be used worldwide, and it's only available as an unlocked phone without a contract, either from or from, where it costs less. You can use the Z30 GSM in the United States on either AT&T or T-Mobile, where the phone will work with either carrier's HSPA+ or LTE networks. This phone will also work globally on GSM, 3G, most HSPA+ and some LTE networks. The phone supports T-Mobile's WiFi Calling, but that requires a release of BBOS that was not available for testing. This test was conducted using BBOS 10.2.1.3175, which has the ability (along with some other release numbers) to run Android software. The ability to run Android apps is a significant development for BlackBerry, if only because it provides a doorway to a vast collection of software that BlackBerry users have only dreamt about until now.
BlackBerry does this by creating an Android-compatible container in which the app runs, while the phone still supports its full, real-time multitasking and strong security. Further reading. But running Android apps isn't the same thing as going to the Google Play store and just downloading an app. Because this isn't Google's operating system, Google Play isn't available. Instead you will need to browse to 1MobileMarket or the Amazon app store, download the store apps and then use those to search for the apps you want to download. This isn't as cumbersome as it sounds, and most Android software works fine.Unfortunately, not all Android apps work.
When an app does fail, most of the time it's because it requires Google Play Services, which isn't available on BlackBerry devices. And, of course, you can't use an app if it's not available in a third-party app store.
To reach the third-party app stores, you must first go into the settings area on the device, open the App Manager and select the 'Installing Apps' function. There you can choose to allow the installation of apps from anywhere.I found that the Android support made the Z30 significantly more useful, especially for some productivity and travel apps.
I was able to download Microsoft Office Mobile and OneDrive, for example, and install them on the BlackBerry Z30. OneDrive integrated properly with the camera on the device so that photos were uploaded automatically.
Microsoft Office Mobile didn't really work properly. In some cases, Android apps worked fine except for some functions. The WeatherBug app worked properly, except for the function that shows the weather radar, which did not work.
Unfortunately, you need to check BlackBerry's support forums to find out which apps worked and which didn't for other users. Spotify premium free. Perhaps at some point BlackBerry will provide some guidance here, but currently that's not available.
Need a double check on the following as I stayed with the Z30 to have the benefits of blackberry and android.Received yesterday my Verizon Z30 (STA100-3) with OS 10.2.0.1233 and when I download an APK and tap to install it I receive the error 'Unable to open appname.apk'. On the Verizon forums folks are stating they can install APK files directly and it is not clear they have a newer version of OS then mine. What I have noticed on other posts is a recommendation to check application permissions as follows: ' SettingsApp ManagerInstalling Apps Allow Apps from Other Sources to be InstalledYes'. This is utterly missing on my Z30, or I cannot find it as it is not on the screen following the path above. Is that setting not part of that build? Or is it not allowed by policy? On my AT&T (dumped them for Verizon) Z10 I have been able to side load APK files converted to BAR files and they worked fine. So I tried to side load the APK files the same way I did on my Z10 and that fails as well. Next I shall try a BAR file will post the result. Thanks fo rany help or advice.
Hey man I see your having issues getting Android Apps on your BB.There is a software upgrade that was released 3 weeks ago, yet Verizon has refused to push it for q10's and z30's, Z10's have it. When we are able to get this update it will allow for the direct APK downloads to the device from a 3rd party app store such as amazon app store or 1market.Until then in order to side load APK apps you can go to this site called goodereader ( here's the link ) You will have to download DDPB once you do that you can downloads apps that you want right from the site, have them converted and install on your Blackberry. There is a how to video if you get stuck anywhere its real easy. BTW there will be some apps that still wont work, and some wont work due to the lack of Google play services.Hope this helps. It's sad that any customer needs to revert to any 3rd party source, when they do business with the alleged 'best wireless' company. Any OS prior to 10.2.1 is considered deprecated due to the significant advantages of the update.Verizon should understand that offering the update in a timely manner, could only be advantageous and prudent. No one will recieve the update until they click to download it. So why on earth are you keeping it from someone who is paying to have it available. Seriously considering cancellation after 1 week. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with all of the carriers.

In this one instance, Verizon released the update first. Not sure about Sprint, but AT&T and T-Mobile have not released any updates at all in months. Switching to another carrier won't make things any better for the customer, except going from one crappy support system to another.BlackBerry has done it's job for the most part, releasing updates to fix bugs and add features. Most of the carriers have ignored the updates and lied to customers, saying that they are waiting on BlackBerry. To be fair, Android phones have the same issues on all carriers, many of them never get updates. Apple is the only phone maker that seems to have forced the carriers to allow updates to come from Apple directly. Of course, they often screw up the updates and mess up peoples phones too.
Update: It looks like the Amazon Appstore actually, and that BlackBerry was simply re-highlighting the feature it added previously. Perhaps humorously, it looks like not enough people use BlackBerry devices to even know if the addition is new or not.

App Stores For Blackberry Z30 Battery
Some users have told us that they’ve had the Appstore by default since 10.3.1, which makes us think this feature is old. Move along.BlackBerry is rumored to be going with an Android OS for its next hardware release, according to last week. But while we haven’t heard anything about that handset quite yet, it looks like BlackBerry is already giving in to the inevitable fact that it just can’t keep up with the competition — on the software front, at least. Starting today, owners of some BlackBerry devices will be that gives access to Android apps by way of Amazon’s AppstoreThe update, version BlackBerry 10.3.2, brings more than just access to the Amazon Appstore, though. With the new version, you’ll also find a fresh new look, “improved” features (can’t really get more ambiguous than that), better security, and the addition of BlackBerry Protect anti-theft protection:With this update, all will get to enjoy a fresh look, improved features, even stronger security and anti-theft protection (!), and access to the, with hundreds of thousands of Android apps.
More power, more privacy, and even more productivity. But the star of the show here, clearly is the added access to the Amazon Appstore. With the Appstore, BlackBerry users will be able to download a huge catalogue of the most popular Android apps — numbering the hundreds of thousands — straight to their device. The only apps that BlackBerry users won’t have immediate access to are those that developers have chosen to keep from the Appstore and the Kindle platform, and that doesn’t include many of the apps you probably already know that you want to download. The update is rolling out right now to U.S.
BlackBerry Classic users on Verizon and T-Mobile, and to the older Q10 and and Z10 handsets on AT&T. BlackBerry says that the update is going to be available on all 10-series devices, though, including “BlackBerry Passport, Classic, and Leap, as well as the Z3, Z10 and Z30, and the Q5 and Q10, and the eligible Porsche Design devices” Users outside of the U.S. Will be getting the update “soon.”.
